A Must-Read Guide to Styling Your Sweatshirt Dress

A Must-Read Guide to Styling Your Sweatshirt Dress

Ever since this pandemic became our new normal and we started working from home more, athleisure has become our best friend in fashion. However, there are only so many ways to toss on your bulky yet cozy sweatshirt or hoodie before the look becomes monotonous.

We see you and are here to help. Under the direction of our fabulous designer Larissa Muehleder, we’ve come up with a number of ways to spice up your sweatshirt style game. From adding tights or leggings, a pop of color in some fresh kicks, or plenty of bling to finish off the look, it’ll be a whole new way to wear your favorite pieces over and over again.

To start it off, check out how Larissa paired her long Muehleder Signature Sweatshirt dress with a chic, floral-printed pair of sheer tights from Urban Outfitters, clear gold studded Louboutin heels, and a dark green handbag thrown over her shoulder. Adding tights or leggings underneath is an easy way to up your sweatshirt game while still staying warm during the cold winter months.

You can also take this long sweatshirt and wear it with a matching pair of our Signature Leggings for a monochromatic look, just like our girl Kelsey who is a vision in royal blue. She seamlessly matches her sweatshirt, leggings, Signature Bandit Mask, and her handbag. Then, perhaps you want to dress the ‘fit up with a cute heel or clutch? Or maybe edgy is more your thing and you can pair it with some trendy, chunky sneakers. The pockets add another layer of comfort by making a purse an option but not a necessity.

Our next look will have you shimmying with delight all day and night long! The red or black Shimmy Slashed Sweatshirt (new in!), brings such an edge to your wardrobe with its oversized sleeves and 18-inch-long crystal tassels hanging off the hem. It’ll move and sparkle with every step you take like the star you are. Plus, we’re absolutely obsessing over how our model paired it over some fishnet tights.

If the tights aren’t your thing, try the look with a coordinating pair of either our Signature Leggings or Catch Up Vinyl Leggings like our girl Kelsey. Then, you can finish off the look with some matching silver baubles and shoes or go with black ones to really make the tassels stand out as the star feature here.

Have we sold you on new ways to wear your sweatshirt yet? If so, check out even more ideas below to take your sweatshirt style game to the next level -- even if you’re just walking from your bed to your couch (hey, no judgments here!).

  1. Make it casual with a pair of light-wash, ripped jeans underneath, like these Madewell ones. This savvy streetwear-inspired look has taken over our IG feeds and we’re positively obsessed.

  2. Rock the oversize sweatshirt as a dress and add some chunky, large baubles to match or stand out. Think something like this statement necklace from Ann Taylor and these Target gold bangles are great ways to dress up the look.

  3. Top off the look with some thigh-high boots to give it a sexy, fashion-forward style. We’re obsessed with these babies from Stuart Weitzman.

  4. We love the layered look! How about you?  Layer your sweatshirt over a denim jacket like this Gap version. Jean jackets not your thing? That’s okay! Try a fun bomber ala this Express option.

  5. Take your Signature Slashed Sweatshirt and wear it underneath a pair of overalls, like these babies from Anthropologie. Overalls have been having a moment of resurgence recently, and like this Who What Wear model, you can easily recreate this street-style, casual look on your own.

  6. Wear your cropped sweatshirts with a midi or pencil skirt, like this Banana Republic option, and mix up the feminine and edgy-casual vibes in one bomb ‘fit.
